We also for this summer have an invitation to do a joint collaboration with the National Youth Orchestra of Iraq which, as you will have seen in the press, was formed last year with support from the British Council and the Foreign Office. Their Conductor is Paul MacAlindin, at present based in Germany.
We will be expecting around 30 - 40 EYO players to participate. The collaboration will take place at the new City of Edinburgh Music School and Julian Lloyd Webber will be involved in a masterclass and a solo cello work with the combined orchestra. More details of this exciting project will be announced soon.
1ST JUNE 2010
WE HAVE JUST HEARD FROM THE NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA OF IRAQ THAT SADLY, DUE TO LACK OF SUFFICIENT FUNDING, THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO UNDERTAKE THEIR TOUR TO THE UK THIS SUMMER AND SO WILL NOT BE JOINING US IN EDINBURGH. WE SHARE THEIR DISAPPOINTMENT AND WISH THEM WELL FOR THEIR SUMMER COURSE IN IRAQ.
